We are building a food system that supports a wild and thriving planet. Starting in a surprising place–the ocean.

Why Seaweed?

Umaro is building the foundation to make seaweed the world's future protein source. Seaweed can produce five times more protein per acre than soy, and requires no land or fresh water to grow! Getting protein from seaweed is a planet-friendly way to protect our food system from climate change.

After years of R&D we have achieved a commercial process for turning seaweed into a multitude of valuable products that help the planet. We extract protein from seaweed and use the other components like carbohydrates and minerals for other environmentally friendly products, like biodegradable plastics!
